Well Pat now the women are into it. I suspect that will increase rapidly.
Some of them look pretty tough. Or tough pretty.

But it is really much safer than Rugby with no helmets, shoulder pads or anything. Again though, the elite champions are so fit their bodies will take a lot more punishment than normal people. BUT a punch to the Heart or Aorta can kill anyone. Some times a heart at any age is just not working as it should and a person would rather ignore the trouble than to have to stop what they love doing.

Head injuries that change personalities also can profoundly reduce a person's life.
War and violent sports... Men's answer to facing the fire, challenging death as women do with every pregnancy and childbirth.

My nephew played football for the military games and was really good at it....until he was injured very badly and had to have his spleen removed and other operations. He was able to complete his military service but he never played football again.

Apples and oranges, Pat? The Christians and gladiators had no choice, and each would end up with life threatening injuries, if not dead. The atheletes playing professional sports have a choice, and in spite of what happened to Damar, it is rare enough that an injury will be life threatening. There are some, granted, but the majority play their chosen sport without injury to that extent. More people are hurt cycling. I wouldn't say that the players look at the salaries as much as the love of the game - many of them live for that. I am an avid couch-coach in many sports, so my comment may be prejudiced.

Good morning
I would never tune in to a real blood sport of any kind. That would give me nightmares for weeks.
