I think that little girls Mama handled an embarrasing situation with great class. Kids way back when went to dances in a group so they felt safe and if there was a kiss at the end of the night then it was mostly just exploring adult relationships. I was very strictly brought up as a teenager.

Like you stated, he had some big cahones. Not only that, the character is such an odd man with strange ideas. I can't imagine the audacity of proposing such a deal with the parents of a minor, let alone the weak offer of a big television as a dowry.

Pat, Happy New Year! I cannot imagine anyone doing anything like this. It would have been so embarrassing for the kids. Thankfully it was not made into a big deal or that would have been worse for everyone.
