Good Evening
Pat, I really enjoyed your post. It reminded me that there genuinely are kind people in the world and I believe it's what makes the world go round. I think the children today could use a little guidance from the neighborhood's moms, grandmas, neighbors, and friends.

I too had to give respect to my elders and never dreamed of not. I wonder what world I am in these days. My Gram. lived into her 90's and her eldest son's were men in their 70's but she was the matriarch and they came running when she called.

Well of course Old George had been around the block a few times. He could see your Mother was genuine.I think she made a real sacrifice and did what was best for her family.

My four sons were born within five years of each other and were a handful. As they grew I was very thankful for our nextdoor neighbor who was a school teacher of the Catholic School across the way. She did not hesitate to act as a second mama and they always respected and obeyed her.

Good morning
Respect was something that children didn't think twice about when conversing with neighbors, elders, teachers, law enforcement, and anyone who was viewed as an authorative figure. The times sure have changed. That old saying, "it takes a village to raise a child" certainly does have merit.
