Re: Sherri G,

In truth, a lot of the traditional values have desperately needed updating in style if not substance. Manners are not as demanding as they once were, but courtesy is still an essential of civil behavior. And no matter what, kids will find their role models, will learn from them and believe in them, so we'd better be the best ones they can find, and love them, trust them, and respect them. Because it will be those things that will, every time, bring them to their mentors.

Re: TAPS,

I give the girls plenty of credit for surviving my Crazy Mom years... Charlie got the better deal, I'd learned a lot about parenting in those seven years since my younger daughter arrived! Mostly, I never tried to shape them to my expectations beyond courtesies and manners. I was never as certain of my superiority and rightness as my parents had been.

What I have appreciated about you and your family is that there was always the common thread of love running through. That alone makes up for whatever other mistakes there might have been!

A lot of good stuff here in this post and it seems that you must have done a good job of raising your own children.

Good morning

For whatever reason parents are not taking the time to instill the values that was once a huge part of growing up through the learning years. I keep being told that the times have changed. Too many children are being left to their own devices when they really need direction and care from their role models. It really is a sad situation for everyone involved.
