I used 23andme. My son bought me the kit for Christmas one year. Every so often I get an update of new dna relatives who have joined. It actually even gives you what possible relative they are...2nd 3rd cousin etc.

I love genealogy! It's been a "hobby" of mine for - well, forever. I wish you son lots of exciting finds and that is interesting about Jesse James and Robert Ford. Now, if Robert Ford really didn't shoot Jesse, I can imagine a lot of smiles going on upstairs...

Good Evening
Pat, I loved the background of your family. I think a person's genealogy can be very interesting.

My sister had our DNA done a year or so ago. We are evidently 60 % Wnglish, and the rest made up of irish, Scots, Norway and a couple of islands of Scotland, Bute and Argyle. I told her that makes us a good northern European Hinze variety. She was offended because she is proud og our English heritage. No Russian or Southern European!! What ever!!I couldn't care less actually.

Family is fascinating as far back as one can find. Yours and probably anyone else's that makes note of it. I love reading books about family origins.

It is fascinating in a way most folk have no idea of ancestors.
Once one would if allowed search through Church records and that depended on the person in charge.

Good afternoon
I love your back story to the James gang. I joined ancestry.com a few years ago after my brother sent me the DNA kit for my birthday. You're right, libraries are an excellent source for genealogy research. The best part about ancestry.com is the ThruLines which took me back to my 5th great-grandparents. I love studying genealogy, and yes, there are many free sites that offer researching tools. I was amazed at the number of relatives that I have that I didn't even know about. The best surprise though was when I read about my ethnic background. Up until I took the DNA test I believed that I was German and Native American due to being told that I was from older relatives. Through testing, I learned that I have zero amounts of either. I am English, Irish, and Scottish. This might explain my love of fish & chips, and potatoes. As for your Ford and Howard surnames, I have several of them in my DNA matches.
