It is a shame that this kind of bird will take smaller prey. Not much one can do though.

I don't think I have ever seen a hawk up close like that.

Although I know the hawks have to eat too, I don't want to be around when a little creature is nabbed by one.

What a lovely yard you have! It's such fun to watch the creatures go about their lives. It's also fun when they return.

I have one walnut tree and one maple both gifts in pots. I planted in other annuals before they came through but they are looking healthy. No I don't intend to plant them out. Just let them grow with annuals around and if they get too big I will put them out front as gifts to any neighbor that may want them.

Good morning
We have that same issue here. Those hawks are very sneaky birds who hide and wait for their moment to pounce on my furry and feathered friends. I always know when one is near simply by seeing the untouched seeds and treats that I put out for them.

Good Morning
Pat, the squirrels have cleaned up all the nuts in the yard. I'm not sure where they stored them but they've got a smorgasbord to enjoy at some point. I think they are out foraging for more nuts because I haven't seen them in a couple days. I wonder if they know something about the weather that I don't know. Every now and then we get this large group of wild turkeys walking through the yard. I wonder if they are friends with the squirrels or enemies? I honestly don't know.
