when my children were young the river that flowed through the town of wagga wagga; used to have a Gummy race each year. you made a raft of old tires and bits of wood and paddled down the river from point a to the end. no prize for winning it was a day to upset other craft, to throw soft fruit at each other to be pelted with stuff from a bridge we had to go under. Silly fun for the family day.

Funny how some things stick in the mind. It was like mass hysteria as the Pop songs were trawled across the radio and television. The gentle rhythm was broken. I suppose young folk were becoming more affluent and the cork was popped.

Good morning

Lyrics often have that special effect when it comes to moving us emotionally. You have such a positive outlook, and you're right, it is up to each of us to find that silver lining.

Re: Or, it may be the song is a direct connection to

Pat, I've been reading all about the disasters around the world.  I feel so bad for the people of Pakistan and Jackson, Mississippi, and all the places that are suffering from drought.  It seems to me there is one thing after the other with no end in sight of weather-related events.  My mind is a blur just thinking about it.  I'm so thankful we don't have to endure these troubles but you never know what could be next for us.  The world is such an uncertain place.  I can remember times in my life when I thought events were terrible like the Vietnam War and the list goes on, but this has surpassed everything I've ever studied about or lived through.  Hurricane Katrina was a tragedy and affected so many people but what people are living through today is unbelievable.

Or, it may be the song is a direct connection to

the overwhelming news of floods in Pakistan and Jackson, Mississippi where people are without fresh drinking water and don't know when their treatment plant will be back on line, where so many in drought-stricken areas are beyond hungry... My little worries don't amount to a hill of beans in this weatherbeaten world.
