I think they knew the possibilities but decided they had to keep the fellows working. Mark probably was not the first to be effected by lead paint. Mark also told me that when a sailor had to move around in the radar area he could feel it in his teeth.

How great that he can get around on a bicycle. I would love to travel around like that, but we have too many hills here in my area.

They had lockers you could rent on the base off the ship for stuff like that. He could only use it in Japan cause he couldn't take it with him when on sea duty.
