He had such an exciting time there onboard and during his stint in the Navy. No wonder he enjoyed it so. He might have made a good career navyman. His letter-writing skills are excellent. How enjoyable for you to get them when they arrived! They are still enjoyable. Thank you.

I love these Posts and it reminds me of travelling from Australia to England as a girl. I would stand on deck and watch the flying fish for ages.

Good Afternoon
Thanks for sharing these posts. I really enjoy them. I had no idea it could be so dangerous on a ship. I guess I should have known but I didn't. I'm learning a lot when I read these letters.

Not all easy work at all. One had to be young to enjoy it.

Scary stuff. But whew! he made it through another day. This is so
fascinating, and it reads like it just happened yesterday. Thank you for posting it here.

Good afternoon
Those watches are the worst. John used to do them every week. There is no sleep even though the service member has put in a full 8-12 hours day of work. They are expected to stay awake despite the fact that their bodies need rest. The military seems to forget that they are human and not robots.

Okinawa sounds like it's a bad luck place for that ship. My goodness.
