Thank you dear Taps for sharing these with us. They ring so true. Beinig an Australian here in the USA people have trouble with my accent. even Jim still has no idea what I just said. Wiley was great. His Mother was English so he grew up listening to her accent and her slang.

A pen-pal in every port? What a great letter writer! Please keep sharing, they are fascinating, so present.

Good morning
This is another wonderful post. I do hope that you share some of your childhood stories with us from the early 1940s. You said that you will turn 85 on July 29th. That is a truly special birthday. Happy early Birthday to you!

It's funny. A cousin of mine is married to a guy from Belfast, Ireland. Sometimes, you would never guess he is speaking English.

Good Morning
I loved this post. I love seeing a glimpse of his life on his ship. I'm sure the rough waters caused a lot of seasick sailors. I would have been so scared on the water in the middle of a storm. Those waters can be treacherous. I was just thinking I wonder if a submarine goes below water in a storm can it still feel the treacherous waves from the storm? This is just a random thought that I really don't know the answer to.

Hmmm... it sounds like the myth may have some substance.
You know the one about a sailor having a girl in every port. What a delight to read his letters.
