Sherri-G is right. Letter writing has become a lost art.
I can just see the hazing those guys go through, based on his description. What a joy to feel the spirit in his letters home.

It has been so long since I have seen that word, that I looked it up to make sure that I understood any nuances. Mark would have loved hearing/reading "epistolarist" used in regard to him. He was a word lover, especially those seldom used.

I've been reading through these letters and greatly enjoying them! Your lad was such a good letter-writer! An 'epistolarist'? So personal and descriptive of the life of a Navy guy! So engaging!

Good morning
He certainly was great at telling Navy stories in detail. I used to look forward to letters from my grandmother. Sadly, letter writing has become a lost art.
