Tough life for tough guys.... you need stamina, determination & confidence to deal with such jobs & traning. Thanks for explaining the two terms.... they were new to me too.
I too feel hazing is barbaric.

Shellbacks are sailers that have crossed the equater at least once in their service and pollywogs (Wogs) are those that have not yet done that. When they do get there, there is a big initiation and picnic on the deck. It is the worst case of hazing that I have ever seen. I really hate hazing. I think it is barbaric. I'm not going to write about it because it is disgusting.

I knew those lines were dangerous but - oh my! What happened to those guys? How sad. And the mess cooking must have been a bit wearing. Shellbacks abd wogs - I don't know those terms but Ribcage sure did! Thank you again.

Oh my goodness I felt so bad when I read about the men getting hurt. My dream would be to cook for everyone. I know I would be tired too when the day was done.

Good morning
Your son lived a colorful life. The military duties are all over the place. They used to send the Navy and Marine mess cooks to the military enlisted club that I worked at for temporary attachment duty aka TAD.
