It is good to remember the old ways, lurid as they may well be in that tough scenario.

Cowboy Poetry is a genre in and of itself, I have been told. It's different than Western [style] Poetry from what I understand, at least that's what my friend tells me. Some of it is quite good and this reads as a very interesting style. Sounds like it is more verse?

I personally wouldn't want any one's dead part of them but i like the way he writes.

I had to laugh about giving the finger to someone after you die.

Good Afternoon

Pat, we watch old west shows but I've never read poetry about the old west.

Re: Sherri G

I believe Mr. Lockley was a writer for local newspapers in western Oregon, and Mike Helm was the editor who pulled this Lockley collection together.  Pat Garrett, if memory serves, was a sheriff or U.S. marshall from another western state.

Good afternoon

You have touched on quite a bit of history in this post. I grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon for several years and I have never heard of this cowboy poet. After searching, I did manage to locate this piece that offers verse and poems from the Lockley files. Oregon History and Folklore from Mike Helm (anitra.net) Now I am checking out Pat Garrett. That surname connection runs in my family through my great-great grandmother.

The actor, Bill Pullman, with whom Charlie worked on a project several years ago, presented a one-man show based on the musings of an old literary cowboy. I don't remember the name, but if I find it, I'll let you know. It was an engaging show!
