Pigeons tried to roost under my roof, but the squirrels had first claim and chased them off. I let my grass and dandelions grow here too - cutting it only when really necessary. It gives the bees and little creatures time to breathe. And I miss hearing the whip-o-wills like you miss the cuckoo - we hear them less and less each year.

I never thought about pigeons' effect on a garden. I don't think I've ever seen a pigeon out in the suburbs where I live.

I know that magpies have the reputation of being nest robbers of
other birds, and they are rascals, but some varieties of them are very glamorous, all tricked out with black and white feathers and long streaming tails.

Good afternoon
I have a large group of daily visiting pigeons who clean up the feed on the ground within minutes. They are the pig of birds as is shown in the first three letters of their name. As of yet, I have had no Magpies, but I would welcome them just the same. I have heard that birds are smart, some more than others. The pigeons are not in that group.

Too many of us and the animal life we enjoy is dwindling. Seagulls and pigeons will survive.
