Now that you say that... we have several areas where we intend to pull down the original wood material paneling. I'm betting there would be enough saved we could do this 'greeting room' as we call it all in the original wood. I mentioned it to my wife and she said maybe we could cut it into two-foot squares and mix the direction of the wood flow like a checkerboard. I'd have to see that first before I'd do the entire room, but it is an idea.
The room is much cleaner now, but there is still a ton of work to do. About 75% of the floor has been replaced, but not by the fireplace... yet. Plans change with ideas!

That gorgeous old bead board would look lovely if you could
stain it a light walnut color, esp. with the refreshed brick of the fireplace. And you're right - your lovely wife is definitely not fat!
