I've not tried to make one but I have tried it. So rich and heavy.

Re: Goldiec,
I didn't make mine according to tradition, as I didn't want all the batter carbs. So I cut it like a 'bloomer' and baked it. As it turned out, it was just a baked onion after all.

Re: adnohr,
The sweet onions I usually buy are simply the flattest ones in the bin of sweet onions. For some reason, the flatter ones are less pungent than the rounder ones. It isn't about the kind of onion, just some grow flatter than others. Some kinds of sweets, though, just seem to grow round.

Reading about your flat sweet onion made me wonder if I had ever seen one. I googled it, and I'm pretty sure that's what I put into my Beef Bourguignon once or twice when I couldnt find pearl onions. Let us know how the blooming one turned out?

Good Afternoon
I've never tried to make a Blooming Onion at home. I'm excited to know how your onion turns out. I've made my own homemade vanilla because during the pandemic I couldn't find any and then when I did it was very expensive. I looked online for the recipe and I have to say it was a complete success. I think everyone should make their own. The one drawback is that you have to wait six months for it to cure but it is worth the wait. I have several batches made and I've started making almond extract. It takes a while to cure but again it's worth the wait.

Good afternoon
Yes! They are delicious. I have made one. They are easy to do at home. I got the courage after I watched Trisha Yearwood and her sister Beth make one on the Food Network. They even have special gadgets to make the perfect blooming onion.
