When we were kids, one of the foster homes where we stayed had hives of honey bees. They taught us how to work with them, and we were shown that bumblebees too were important, and to respect thm.

I've had them fly along the same way I was walking at times,

and they never offered to sting. I just stay very calm and steady when bees or hornets' flight paths seem to cross my own trajectory - as long as I don't get aggressive, they don't either.
