LOL - it's the same place she sat when you were here, Kabu.

I read her your message, and she sends the hugs back.

Oh my! Sounds harsh, but it is the way it was.

Our only heat was the wood cooking stove in the kitchen...and all those bodies in one spot tended to help. I was lucky; the stove pipes ran up through my bedroom, so I could warm my clothes on it before getting dressed.

In the French Canadian families, the kitchen seems to be the

gathering point, Sassyass. Fortunately my kitchen/dining area is large. We mostly are around the table, although with ALL of the crew here at one time, it can make for 2 or more seatings. That's when the older kids get to sit in the living room with their games and their plates if they don't wish to sit at the first round at the table.

I can see that, FSI

We tend to gravitate to where we feel more comfortable, and habit makes us feel that way.

Exactly, Pat_B! It's not planned, it just happens. Some of us have our preferred cup for coffee too.

Don't worry about your comments, Goldiec.

They are fun to read! Your place sounds much like mine when the whole clan arrives - we find room, and we eat, drink and are merry!

YES, have always had a chair for each family member and even with just two of us we have our favorite for eating, in the four seasons room and also in the front living room.Give Karen a big hug from me. I can see her sitting there in her chair.

Sounds pretty true, I expect even the ancestors had their own place around the fire. the only time I have known it to be different was when as kids we had to stay at a great aunt's for two or three hours each evening. It was too cold to sit at the table especially in winter as she never closed the door. We had to scramble for the best chairs in front of a roaring fire. The loser had a block of wood to sit on.

Good afternoon

I grew up with the family sitting at the dinner table so I continued the tradition with my kids. Now that our girls are grown, John and I each have our own spot at our dinner table but for the past few years, we have been eating in front of the television on trays. However, when the family comes over for a meal, we dine at the table.

I find that to be the case often with family settings. People have their spots.

It reminds me of a math class I took in high school. It was time to change the seating chart, and the teacher let the front row have their pick. They all chose the same spot.

We do generally have a preferred place to sit, but it's no big deal.

Seems to me we all had our specific place at the table when the kids were growing up. We kind of homed in on that spot.

Good Morning

I love this post!  I do have my favorite chair and I sit in it all the time if we have company.  Everybody else just picks a free chair and sits in it.  We usually have way more family here than we have chairs so people will sit at the kitchen table, the living room couches, or the kids will sit on the stairs at times.  Everybody always has a full plate of food wherever they manage to find a place to sit.  It's always been like this and we are all so used to it that it's just the way it is.  The kids have never said anything about the seating arrangement.  I think they just love being here.  I'm always busy making memories for everyone.  I can tell you which food is who's favorite.  The boys all seem to favor the mashed potatoes and gravy.  I have two grandsons that love chocolate cake with icing and I have three granddaughters that love Strawberry bomb cake and two grandsons that always ask for it for their birthday.  I love family dynamics because each family is unique and I think that is priceless.  My comment is a little long again!!!
