- Go to My Mother Told Me That She Ate This as a Child...I Didn't Believe Her
My uncles would go hunting for squirrel and rabbit. I think I have eaten one or both of them way back when we would visit Grandma as kids.

Yes, I have seen a woman skinning squirrels. Grey ones at that. We would not be allowed to touch the red ones.

Re: Kabu, I grew up somewhat spoiled too.
I am so thankful that I didn't have to experience those types of vittles.

Re: TAPS, this sounds similar to what my mother experienced.
Necessity is the mother of invention, and if not for chicken pot pie, we will have one made with a squirrel. My guess is that it tastes similar to rabbit since they are from the rodent family.

My Dad liked his squirrel cooked into squirrel and dumplings. He was a good hunter and he did it from necessity....big family (we had seven kids). Dad worked at the Ford Plant but when Ford went on strike which they did quite often it seemed, Dad had to find another way to feed the family. He also gardened, helped Mom can everything we didn't eat, raised chickens and rabits, worked as a taxi driver, etc. until the strikes were over.

I am too spoiled. Never had to go hungry, we killed a sheep on the farm for meat along with the odd chicken or rabbit. I hate rabbit, too strong for delicate little me. but something as cute as a squirrel. No!
