The Handmaid's Tale was an assigned book in one of my women's studies class. I enjoyed reading it. At times, I think we are approaching that society. I love watching the show. I have watched 3 seasons so far.

What a lady! I agree with her remark about the cheese, and not only where writing is concerned, but for life in  general.

Good Afternoon

Pat, I've always found the most enjoyment reading my friends' books.  I know so many good writers.  The book I'm reading right now is called "Hot Winter Sun" by Jessica Russell.  The book is amazing about the English Civil War and there's romance and mystery in it that really adds to the story.  She was a self-published author but now has a publisher.  A new book is coming out in a few days.  It's wonderful to see new writers succeed.

In this new age of self-publishing--something quite different from 'Vanity Press' of earlier times--has really changed the game of getting into print, but it is still a matter of marketing whether a writer gets read enough to get a Name in the business.

what interesting things we have been privileged to be part of, us who are older and have lived through so much as all the elderly do.

So many writers.  Success is easy if you are regarded as a celebrity. Well, you know that Pat. Otherwise one has to compete. Everyone seems to want to become a writer and it is great if one's books fly off the shelves. Anyway if it helps to shield one from dementia it is worth the effort.

Sassy, I totally agree with you about which writers to envy... I know

I'd have done better by at least half if I didn't find pitching stories and making the rounds to sell (even on line) my work. Writing is creative and challenging. Selling is a bitch. I admire those writers here on Blogit who put in the work to sell their good work.

Margaret Atwood has an impressive biography. The awards have poured in from the 1960s to the present day. It appears that she spent her early years in the same neck of the woods as adnohr in the Bush of Quebec. I see that she is regarded as one of Canada's finest living writers. That is quite an accomplishment for any writer. Thanks for sharing. I am checking out her books and poetry.

Good morning

I will have to check out her work. The two writers that I envy are Harper Lee and Nora Roberts. The former found fame later in life and the second is living the dream of a successful writer with all of the perks. It only takes one best-selling book to make it, but penning more than 200 #1 best-selling novels is one helluva accomplishment.
