My mom used to tell me about blizzards in North Dakota and times
there was a frozen crust they could walk on as kids. They used to sit - she said - on the tops of telephone poles the snow was so deep. When I drove through that area in the early 70s, I noticed the poles were only about 10' high & there were almost no trees as we went through the Badlands.
