Love it! Super-Seniors are so often overlooked and marginalized.

That man blew away my frustration with his action, Sea Gypsy.

It was the best smile I had all day!

Re: I've never seen that kind of perk here, CCT

That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It could be. I would insist on free rhubarb.

That will probably happen here too, FSI.

The thing is, a large part of the population here are elderly, and many of them have no use or inclination to use cell phones. In fact, many have others shop for them. How is that to be handled?

I love spontaneous interactions like that, Sassyass!

It made my day!

Re: LOL - I think maybe that's a bit too advanced yet for my area, Annicita

We have one large chain store who gives us a client card, much like a credit card, and it awards points each time you buy, then can be used to lower your total at the cash register. Easier for the old folks to understand.

That grocery store is a huge chain across our province. We do have a

choice of two others, one where the merchandise is a little more expensive, but it's always fresh, pleasant to shop there too. They have no self check outs and still have young people bagging your groceries, even carrying them to the car for  you. It will be the choice for the numerous elderly here, I believe. For sure this old gal will be a regular client.

It was the first I had ever heard of it,Goldiec, so a total surprise

I believe that grocery store, one of three in our village, has just got on board with coupons on our cellphones. Yes, I still smile when I think of what the guy did.

Glad you finally got your discount. I dislike the idea of loading apps on my phone just to get a discount. And you are so right, those who benefit the most from those discounts are more likely to either not have cell phones or not be able to use them for apps to get discounts. What a huffy clerk! I loved hearing about the man behind you in line. Great story.

Occasionally on our delivery of groceries, a bottle of something is given as a perk. Sometimes I look at it, well most times and then forget about it. I did try a bottle of free orange juice but it was so sweet, no good for slimmers.

That sounds like such a hassle. I would rather just stick to coupon clipping. At our grocery stores, you can put in your phone number. Maybe it can eventuallyh be tied into that.

Good morning

I cannot express just how sick I am of cell phones and modern technology. Not everyone has access to or understands cell phones. This world has become way too modern for my liking, and the younger generations who are cell phone savvy have zero patience with us old folks. And, you're right, champions sometimes appear out of nowhere.

IDK about that store. The store where I shop, I have on my cell. I registered with them to get all the discounts. I used to have to scan codes. Now I just put my phone number in and it calculates and deducts all my coupons. I also get mystery bonus points x a certain number. Today I have to use my 28x spending 50 and I will get $7 in bonus. I have gotten over 300 in bonus groceries by doing this. You might want to suggest this system to them. They also use it in St. Louis at the big chain there.

Their boss, the one at the top of the food chain, set up this routine

to maximize his own bottom line. He (assuming its a he) is not gonna change because of a few complaints - only if it begins to cost more in employee time making corrections and restocking the  returned items. Seems like a lot of inconvenience (and expense) for customers, who have the option to shop elsewhere.

Good Morning

We have the same setup here and I have no idea how to use my phone to do the coupons.  We go online to the sales ads and clip them on the computer and they go to our advantage card and then we get credit.  I think it would be so much easier if I could just cut out the coupons like we used to do and take them to the store.  I loved the guy that you met at the store.  I loved his take on the whole situation and I think his response was awesome.  I hope you have a good day.  Stay warm and safe!
