Re Pat

It was the same with me Pat. My mother did the best she was always working.

Sadly she wrote a note which I found in a jar. She said she really felt sad that she could not show her children more love, it was because she had never been shown any as her own mother had been brought up in well do to circumstances and just could not cope with so many children and not much money. I guess it was how many women felt in those days.

It's amazing all that was done back in the day. They sure had it harder...That sounds like a fun class to be a part of.

Re: adnohr

Funny about five years later she asked my father if I could supply her with a nice roasting chicken  She always seemed to pick on me at school.

Re: Re: Re: Ciel;

Ciel I will be interested to see how you fare with your weed cover mesh. I have put extra thick matting type down and the weeds must have rooted on top and of course, I should have chopped them off.

Re: Good Afternoon Sassy

Sassy I ate 7 yesterday but strong-willed only 2 today so far. The trouble is no one wants them or I don't like giving them to folk who look like they are too plump already.

Hmm - the teacher was guilty of one of the 7 sins, I gather! I would get out of my warm bed dancing to keep my feet off the cold floor. We heated with wood, not parrafin, but I imagine the heat was about the same. Luckier than you though, because I only walked to the warm barn for milking, didn't have to go out and about too far.

Kids worked very hard back in the day right alongside their folks.

Nobody thought it odd when Mom made us work in the garden, chop wood, help with the laundry, etc. In those days our ambitions were to become grownups and be accepted by other, older grownups. When my kids were coming up they began to identify only with other kids in their peer group: I used to say they all lived on Planet High School. I don't think it hurt our character any to take on responsibility early on. Seems to me it gave you much to write creatively about 'forever after.'

Re: Re: Ciel;

Especially after another good night's sleep, I am feeling much more lively today, and ready to face the housekeeping demands that come after 3 weeks away!

Thanks for your good wishes!

Good afternoon

You have written quite a vision of your childhood. I can see you standing over the black stove in your vest trying to keep warm on an icy winter day. As for the chocolates, you could always cut them into 1/4s, maybe even 1/8s if you continue to be tempted by their deliciousness.

Re: Ciel;

Well, it shows you were well educated, most would have never heard of that one.
I hope you feel really fit again now.

I can just about feel the cold and dark of your winter mornings!

Years ago, I had a dream about a box of chocolates. It had a label on the back that said ALDEBARAN, which was where they came from:a star about 65 light years from here, that has a Jupiter-sized planet traveling around it.

Have a good 2022!
