Oh what great memories you bring to mind.  Today I was remembering what a darling my dad was during the Christmas Season.  He brought home all the Christmas trees, the decorations, the treats (bowls of Christmas candies, stockings to hang, the nuts and nut crackers, bowls of big oranges and apples, small things to fill the stockings, paper and ribbons, wrapping paper and ribbons and , and much much more and he loved doing it.

Good Afternoon

Pat, over the years we've had artificial trees and real trees. I loved all of them.  One year we had a real tree and my husband said it was getting too dry.  I loved it and wanted to leave it up but he said it wasn't safe.  I was beside myself when he took it down because it was only a couple days after Christmas.  We lived in the country at that time and he told me to come outside he wanted to show me something.  He had the whole tree in the big burner and he took one match and touched the tip of the tree.  There was a whooshing sound and the whole tree ignited instantly.  From that point forward I have always favored artificial trees.  I've actually seen what could happen with a dry tree.  I loved this post.  We don't use tinsel but I've always loved the way it makes a tree look.  We used garland for years.

We always planted our tree after Christmas one grew about 9 feet tall it was by the wall next to the lane, One Christmas someone sawed the trunk and just left the root. Mother was very annoyed, we never found out who took it. Reminds me of a chap I used to know he said he saw a large marrow on someone's allotment as he passed. He wanted it to make marrow wine. I cannot remember how. but one filled the marrow with ingredients and waited for it to ferment. He cycled down the next night to the allotment and stole the marrow. When he looked at it the next morning he was rather worried the grower had carved his initials in large letters on the marrow.

It belonged to a friend of his brothers.

Good afternoon

Thank you for sharing your family's Christmas traditions. Those memories are priceless. My parents always put up an artificial 6-foot tree and adorned it with lights, ornaments, and a ton of tinsel. Once married, John and I used to take our girls into the woods and chop down a tree to their liking. During the decorating, we played Christmas music and allowed them to hang their "special" ornaments that they made in school. This year we have no plans for a tree. Our middle daughter is hosting our holiday feast, and she has a decorated tree for all of us to enjoy.
