It delighted me no end. Very well done. However, as you say, you felt bad on eating a skylark, one of the finest songbird known to mam, especially theEnglisman, secind only probably to a nightingale.

My maternal grandmother spent some of her early life on the farm. It was tough to eat the chickens with them being pets and all.

I too have a couple of horrid memory of things i did to small creatures. it was a tough way to learn a lesson, toughest of all on the animal.

Thoughtful poetry. I've wondered similar things.
I don't think I've ever seen a skylark - perhaps just didn't know what it was, but I'm guessing one is about the size of a robin, and would not be good to eat, especially if it had not been cleaned of internal organs before going into the oven. Sad memory.
