That's how my mom taught me to make acorn squash as well.

Re: Good afternoon

Sassy, you are so kind to all your furry friends.  They will stay by your house forever.  I had no idea you could buy squirrel food. The pizza Roy brought home was so good.  Everybody loved it.  My gnomes really loved their sweet treat.  We haven't had squash in quite some time so it was really nice to have it tonight.  Enjoy your evening!

Good afternoon

It's pizza night for us too since this is our Friday. I bought a stuffed crust that I plan to add mushrooms to besides the meats that already came with it. I can never seem to locate stuffed crust pizzas with mushrooms. Your gnomes are sure to enjoy their sweet squash treat. It was chilly here this morning, but what tomatoes I have left on the vines made it through the night. As for bird food, I stock up on the 20 pound Walmart economy brand in the red & white bag. I also buy squirrel food that contains corn & nuts. I lay a scoop full on the ground and keep the feeders full. Today, I had two Blue Jays. The Sparrows are our main visitors, but we also get Cardinals, Crows, Pigeons, and little red-headed birds that look like Woodpeckers, but smaller. Your birds will eventually come back and find your buffet. Have a great day!

Re:

FSI, I have no clue where all our birds have been this year.  I'm really worried about them.  I know they say if you start feeding the birds you have to continue throughout the winter because they count on the food.

Re:

Ciel, I love zucchini!  It's my favorite vegetable in the garden.  I know you will enjoy it.  I just checked my squash and it looks so good.

Re:

adnohr, I didn't think about using maple syrup and I do have some.  Well, maybe next time.  It was so much work getting the squash ready but it will be so worth it when it's done.

Re: I was tickled to learn that recycling pumpkins for the critters was a good

Pat, I really wish I would have carved pumpkins this year.  We have a section of woods behind the house and if I had pumpkins I would have put them in the back.  I know the animals would have loved them.  I wish you could smell my squash cooking.  It smells so good.

I believe the general rule is not to have bird seed during the winter months because it discourages birds from doing their instinctual thing of heading down south.

Your butternut squash sounds delicious! I am planning to make zucchini 'steaks' with the monster from my garden!

Sounds good - I bake squash from our garden too, but with maple syrup instead of the brown sugar.

I was tickled to learn that recycling pumpkins for the critters was a good

idea. Great for people who live near a park or woodlands area. I think the gnomes will enjoy the squash very much.
