Lo FS . Your busy time approaches if they salt the roads. I suppose it is all in a day's work.

Re: Good Afternoon Goldiec
Yes, we had a frost like that a couple of days ago but last night was a bit of a stinger.
It is always colder when there is a bright moon. Sometimes we do get mild weather again before Christmas. We are in a hollow so the cold air drifts down but since houses have been built around us it has helped keep the temperature up a bit.

Re: sassyass
Yes, sassy. It is rather messy if one does not get to the dahlias quickly. Also, the string has to be removed and the canes stacked. We sometimes have a jar of pickled cabbage. It has a funny name to it. I cannot remember it at the moment/. Sour something.
I really like pickled walnuts, but the trees near here have grown too tall to pick the nuts green. Shop ones never seem the same.

Yes one frost it makes a mess of everything. Now don't forget after your dahlias have been frosted a few times cut them down. I honestly don't know if they will survive your winter. If you feel strong you could dig the roots up and just store them in a cool place until the spring if we do it we just throw a bit of soil over them. Make sure vermin cannot get to them. If you want to chance it pile soil on top of the plants. Nothing is easy.

Re: Sea_Gypsy
I wonder if your herbs have mildew? . Wet and warm can induce it. Hope you feel better.

Re: Kabu
Yes, it is inevitable as always. We have not done badly through the last 5 or 6 years.
No wolves prowling around these days, safe and warm, My cat keeps going off for a day or two and then as now comes back and had some lactose free milk two packets of cat food and some Dreamies . The greenhouse has a heater and it sometimes lies under it, can't do more it has a tag on it but who knows where it came from
.

For the dahlias it was just a matter of time and temperatures. Some of my plants that came indoors are failing all the same, falling into hibernation for the winter, I guess.

What a shame about the dahlias. My herbs are withering away and I don't know why. Odd weather, I suppose.

I didn't like it when my tall Tussock bellflowers died either - I really enjoyed admiring those delicate white blossoms. Isn't tht just like an elderly couple - not going loopy with the riches?

I feel so sorry for the frostbitten dahlias. They deserve to dance
another day. As for the pallets business, with the cold weather nipping at our heels, there will surely be a payoff there very soon. I love the little play with the older couple and winning the lottery. So realistic, still going to work and being frugal with a million in the bank...

Those Dahlias are promising you a hard day's work. I am so sorry. As for the pickled shallots, yum! I am a fan of pickled and fermented vegeatbles. It's great for gut health.

Good afternoon
It is a sad sight to witness when you see healthy flowers go into a state of despair and then death.
This is why I am not a fan of the cold, but without the deep freeze, we cannot have new beginnings in the spring.

Good Afternoon
I'm so sorry the frost got your Dahlias! It must be very cold for you. There was frost here one-morning last week. We saw it on the neighbor's roof down the street. Fortunately, we have all our plants inside for the winter. It's very chilly here today and we are expecting snowflakes.
