It must have been a job for all to cope with tension running high. I know you can understand how your Mother must have felt, sadly many families suffered poverty

wealth was so unequally divided and there was not much time for love or comforting.

Oh my what memories you bring back to me of those times, those days....ringer washing machine, hanging the clothes on the line, clothes pins.  The work was never done.  I had a Dad who went to work, and a Mom who staid at home but money was always tight because there were seven children, a full house.  We had chickens and rabbit hutch and Dad hunted for meat and fished now and then, grew a wonderful garden each year and mom canned and canned and made pickles and sauerkraut.  I could go on and on since you got me started.

what lovely memories and how grateful I am to have been young while one could still be running free.My special place was called Brewer's WWood because a latge family had once lived on the edge of the small woods.

Good Afternoon

Pat, thank goodness you loved Nature, and you had somewhere to go to find peace in your life.  I think life can be very challenging for families.  My guess is the life you had growing up made you the wonderful person you are today.

Re: Annicita

You're right, most kids are blissfully unaware of things their parents deal with.

Good afternoon

Maybe this is where your amazing imagination and creativity are originally drawn from. I know that it worked for me. I have heard that Spam can be turned into an edible dish with the right seasonings and preparation. I have never eaten it, but my hubby has. The woods were my refuge too. There is just something so peaceful about creeks, trails, and trees. And while we weren't poor as far as monetary things went, there wasn't much of a family connection or love. My mom worked long hours, my step-dad was someone who I preferred to avoid, so I made do with the great outdoors or my world of dolls and make-believe.

Most children don't understand their parents financial stress.
