I guess you are right adnohr , It could have been worse. I remember once an old;d lady gave me a cup of tea and at the bottom was a half sucked peppermint. I suppose she tasted it first and the mint slipped out of her mouth.

Oh, my. This reminds me of treats offered to me at grandmother's
house. She'd come up on the philosophy of "make do, or do without." At least she was well-intentioned and grateful.

Good afternoon
The whole picture of the woman, the weather, and her abode is gray, grim, and chilly. The only warm thing in that cottage was the tea and the fire that lit it, and thank goodness for that.
