We always see one or two after folk stop feeding the birds. Pretty tame kind of field rats. I expect some folk put poison down but I like to use a trap that kills instantly.

Oh my! I've heard there are so many of these pests in New York City. I'm also sure they are in all cities. It's all too much for me.
