Which socialist programs threaten our freedoms? Social Security? SNAP? Federally funded early education programs? Housing subsidies? Medicare? Medicaid?
The thing is, these are the fruits of democratic socialism: safety net programs to provide for people like impoverished children, the elders who used to fall through the cracks in society because no one made sure they didn't. Socialism is society taking care of the people who don't have boots, let alone bootstraps. But the word has come to be popularly misunderstood because of its links with communism which is something totally different.
This is why I say the word 'socialism' should never stand alone. It is authoritarian socialism that threatens social and personal freedoms by limiting or taking away our power to make choices, to manage our own lives. It is democratic socialism that is there for our neighbors, for us when we need them.

Good afternoon
Some sort of balance is sorely needed, but socialism is not the way to go. We do need to protect our freedoms, and whatever it may take to do that.

Not that actually educate. Program, indoctrinate--sure. Just what they are currently accusing everyone else of doing with things like teaching real history instead of our happy little myths.
