I remember my mom using one of them until they had saved up enough to buy a regular washer.
When I was in Egypt, we used the wringer washer. We did, however, have a nozzle to connect it to the sink to fill the washer and a hose to empty the washer into the drain. We didn't have a dryer as well. We had to hang the clothes to dry and hope the soot didn't darken the clothes.

even when I left school we were still washing the way you describe. The old copper and wringer washing machine with tubes to put the clothes in to wring. Because water was always short sis and I would carry the buckets of water to the garden. Then when I lived in the Bus at one stage I used a copper with a ringer on the side to wring the clothes into cold water rinse. Nappies, I used nappies(Cloth Diapers) so that was the toughest of all.

Good afternoon
Laundry has certainly changed through the years as far as a few flips of a switch goes. I remember my grandmother's wringer washer. It was a bit tedious, but it got the job done. It surely did beat washing them on a scrub board. My hubby did that as a kid. I still hang dry clothes during the warmer months to prevent high electric bills and shrinkage. I especially love hanging out the bedding.

Well, I have to admit I do washing nearly every other day, but I don't use the dryer as I don't want the problem of getting a new machine and I think my old one might still stagger along by doing light washes. In the winter I find that the clothes dry quite easily indoors on a rack at the top of the stairs. I also have a frame that is heated and use that. I rarely use a clothesline as I cannot get a good airflow unless I take the washing a good way from the house.

I remember our Monday wash days. More agreeable in the summer than the winterr. I thought I would be reading that your daughter was gone and had forgotten her laundry in the machines

Re: Good Morning
Goldiec, maybe there's a YouTube video that would show you how - although you could not check online if your power was out.

Good Morning
Pat, thanks for sharing this memory. Thank goodness I've always had an electric washer that does the work for me. For decoration we have three washboards hung up in the back room. I wonder if things got really bad if I would have to use them to wash our clothes. I have no idea how to do that.

Re: TAPS
I agree with you. This was not a fun remembrance. But thank heavens it's easier now.

How this takes me back. Monday was always washday for us....Mom, Dad and six kids. A week's worth of dirty clothes, bedding, towels, etc., even Dad's large men handkies because he refused to use kleenex tissues. Mom would boil them on the stove first with Grandma's Lye Soap before she would even put them in the wringer washing machine. It took the whole day. And in winter the clothes froze stiff as a board on the line. You wrote this well but I did not even like remembering.
