Fortunately we don't have that problem yet in our area. The lunches at the local and regional schools here are prepared and served by a friend off mine and her employees, and she's a stickler for nutrition and taste. I haven't heard if Covid has had any impact on her school contracts.

Today they are vital as they were then. In Catholic school I didn’t care for the lunches or the lunch ladies there. They slapped the slop into a plastic plate in a plastic tray and it looked like barf to me. They would Hawkeye which kids didn’t eat up all of their food. My mom had to go up to the school to wxojain to them that I couldn’t drink all of my milk or eat that much food. They left me alone after that. I usually brought lunch or went home anyway. I wish I had gone to your school for lunch. Happy birthday.🎊🎉💥🎂

I would always expect school lunches to nne nutritious healthy and fresh. But then I think of how much my parents sacrificed for sis and me to go to boarding school for decent high school education and the terrible meals we used to be served as boarders. And a generation later when I let my boys buy lunch once a week from the school canteen and it was fries and sauce and not a healthy thing in sight.

it is funny one would think with all the knowledge available that schools would treat as a priority to provide good healthy food for the children. Also, instruct them on the merits of eating wisely explaining that it is for the future development of their bodies.

Good Morning
Pat, this is so true for every school across the country. The lunch ladies are very important to the school atmosphere during the day. It would be nice if schools would go back to nutritious freshly cooked lunches but I don't think it's feasible now. The superintendents would have a million reasons why this wouldn't work. They would start with finances and go from there.

Good morning
God bless the lunch ladies, past and present who take their work seriously. A child's brain functions so much better when they are well-nourished. School lunches were great when I was in grade school. By high school, I was going to Taco Bell or McDonald's for lunch. I always packed my girl's lunches with sandwiches, chips, and fresh fruit, or a snack cake. Thank you for sharing your story. I am now craving pot roast and gravy. Have a great day!
