Fractions can be a challenge to non-math folks.
When I was a kid I worked in a downtown deli / lunch counter, and part of my job was kitchen prep - I measured out the quarter pound bits of hamburger using a particular ice cream scoop. They also sold a 1/3 pound serving of kosher potato salad, which was a bit larger. Otherwise I'd be one of those who thinks the fourth is larger than the third.
