Yeah, I like to return home to a clean house. The hot chicken sandwich is amazing. After you fully fry the buttermilk chicken patty you dunk it into the hot sauce blend and serve it on a toasted bun. I make my hot sauce with melted butter, brown sugar, a pinch of cayenne pepper, a pinch of garlic powder, and Frank's Red Hot sauce. I will post pics of our trip on Facebook when we get back. Have a great evening.

Re:

Annicita, I wouldn't know how to prepare for a hurricane.  I would have to study what I should do.  We are pros at getting ready for winter though.  We do it every Fall.

Re: Good morning

Sassy, I love your idea of disinfecting the fridge before you leave on your trip.  I would do the same thing.  I must say your hot chicken-style sandwich sounds delicious.  I hope you have a safe trip.

Pat, I love reading about your memories.  This is how my family prepared for winter every Fall.  I think to have your shelves stocked before the cold wind blows in is really priceless.

Since it is pretty much the same temps here year round I don't do anything to prepare for winter. Now on the other hand, we have hurricane season and I stock more snack foods and bottled water just in there is a problem with the water or utilities.

Good morning

Scalloped potatoes are one of our favorites, and chicken patties are one of John's. I spice his up with hot chili oil, kind of like a Nashville hot chicken-style sandwich. I want the fridge disinfected and clean before we leave, so today's dinner involves a refrigerator cleanout. Soup, corn on the cob, and panko-covered zucchini strips in marinara sauce. It is cool and soggy here today. Hurrican Fred found his way to our area as of this morning. We are headed out to the beach early tomorrow morning, hopefully, Fred doesn't interfere too much with our travel plans. Have a great day!

The prices have gone crazy. I'm hoping that things can stabilize. It's going to be tough for so many to afford basic things like eating.

Preparing for winter? Now you're talking! This used to be the season

for gathering and picking fruit and veggies, spending hot days in the kitchen peeling and cutting, scalding the Mason jars, packing in the peaches, making syrup, processing the sealed jars in a giant kettle. This meant keeping the fire going in the old iron cookstove during the afternoon heat of an August day.  But the storeroom shelves were full by the end of September, pickles, peaches, jams and jellies, green beans, sweet corn, peas, etc. We didn't have a freezer then, couldn't afford one. So we hunkered down and followed the methods from the pioneer days. I may have cussed about the sweat and hard work then, but these days it's good to have the perspective of those memories.
