Re: Sassy
I try and use stuff that says safe for children and pets. Honestly, I have never had slugs on tomato plants, but we do have large caterpillars that bite holes in the tomatoes.

Re: Good Afternoon Goldiec
We never use cabbage in the summer as you say the caterpillars would eat them.
I netted some calabrese last year and the white butterflies just went mad to get at them. We rely on stick beans mostly. Sprays are improving but I am always careful even if it says spray and eat the same day.

Re: Ciel
Ciel I think doves may have had a less traumatic past. Wild pigeons have always been hunted. A rather cruel thing a man told me he did. It was to tie the young pigeon's legs together so they could not leave the nest. I really told him off at the time. I can tell you I have tried beer traps they work on a small scale but the eventual smell is far worse than an old garden privy.

Bugs make for a challenging farming and gardening life. So do rabbits as a matter of fact.

Perhaps if we followed these precepts and chose a mate for
practical reasons rather than "romance" we'd do a better job of it. I thoroughly enjoyed these - especially the ones about the baker and the dough, etc...

My doves seem content with my presence on the deck with them and their dovelings, but not easy enough to come eat from my hand.
I have no slug problems here, but used to back in Washington State. Beer traps attracted them, the lushes...
Choosing a mate seems to take a very practical turn sometimes.

Good Afternoon
We won't grow cabbage because we couldn't keep the bugs away. I wonder how the products we buy at the grocery store have no bugs on them?

Those slugs are the worst when it comes to gardens. We use Sevin to turn them away from our pepper and tomato plants.

Good afternoon
A baker could be a great catch. He has big hands for both baking and protecting.
