History, comparative religions/philosophies, and anthropology! That basic curiosity plus travel--learning plus experience--we'd have a kinder world, I do believe!

I think understanding the Other begins with understanding the Self. And we do spend whole lifetimes on that!

I suspect you're right! For children and women and poor men, life has always been particularly difficult. In the East, the idea of karma and rebirth and in the West, the promise of Heaven made the hard life tolerable, as if suffering has meaning, I guess.

Well, it is great to have an interest in historical themes. 

I would not think that the ordinary person fared very well in any country.

I love all things Historical. I do believe I could study Asian History and Russian History for a full life time and never really truly understand their peoples.

Historic places are fascinating. I enjoy learning about people from other cultures. I more so enjoy the early history of their country and how they lived their lives during those times.
