I used to love watching thunderstorms when we lived in eastern
Washington - they were as you described in your post - high and mostly horizontal strikes, and thunder wasn't loud enough to rattle the windows. Here in the Midwest it's a different story, there's almost always high winds and a sense of real danger. I hope all your flowers come out as you'd want them - and the tomatoes will ripen with just a few hot days.
