I hadn't thought of that aspect of it--but perhaps limiting one's field of 'beauty' is a kind of escape from all the ills one suffers in life, including resentments and fears. For me, it was certainly the case, that I found great refuge in fantasy and in the woods behind the house, and trails into the wilds.

Well, I suppose the environment makes a difference. Who can see beauty if one is smouldering with resentment?
