We waved to the troops as they passed on route to take back Europe. Threw them pears and apples.

Nope. Not when I was little. No talking to strangers or waving at strangers. Here, in this neighborhood, a lifetime later, yes, I wave at everyone.

I still got that when I was in St. Louis and at the house in the country my mom had. We would go for a walk and everybody would wave from cars etc.
