My heart goes out to those wonderful, strong, tireless ladies who had no choice but to carry on.

My grandma was up before dawn as well. She made breakfast before all the chores started: slopping the pigs, feeding the chickens, gathering eggs, milking cow, churning butter and so on.

My Grandma on my mother's side was a miner's wife on that schedule and in that manner.  When she got Grandpa off to work with his miners cap and lunch bucket her day really began.  Seven children to get off to school, washing for nine outside on a washboard, baking her bread on a wood stove, etc. etc. then gardening.

My Grandmother's era, my mothers youth. Actually the best baking I ever did was on the old wood stove. Cakes, cookies,a roast dinner, scones pies, everything turned out perfectly.

Re: 4:00 a.m. is perfect for me too.

That coffee grinder would be a bit tedious though, and cooking coffee on the stove could quickly turn into some cowboy coffee.

Good Afternoon

I have to say getting up at 4 a.m. would not be a problem for me because that's when I always get up but I'm not sure about making the coffee.  I would have to have lessons on cooking on this stove.
