RePat

Funny really Pat there is not much thought of selection when one is going to spend a lifetime.

Yes and life can seem larger than what it means.

Re: sassyass

Well good for you. It was a job to read with low lights in the blackout.

Re: Sea_Gypsy

Dear me you could have had ours. I suppose we resented having them as birthday presents. Although once a man I knew said for his Xmas present when he was a boy he had 1 toilet roll.

I remember everyone getting encyclopedia sets when we were kids. However, not for Christmas! And yes, they did come in a few books at a time. I remember wanting the R book or some such thing and we didn't have it yet. Too far down the alphabet. I loved having those books for reports. I could give a reference, even though I was very, very young. It saved going to to library to look up something. Then I discovered other kids had fancier encyclopedia sets and I wanted those, too. Daddy said no to that idea. Thank God!

What a shame they weren't donated to a local school. I wouldn't want them for a Christmas present either!

I think that at one time or another we all owned a set of those encyclopedias. I remember reading them for months.

As a kid, I liked reading through encyclopedias. There was so much information in them. Today, it's Wikipedia for me.

Ya win some, ya lose some... How sad when hope is dashed.
