That's definitely a backhanded compliment. I'm so sorry that you've received insults. I hope you've also received some good compliments to balance it out.

I will be the first to admit I have received many insults, some veiled and some blatant.One was in reference a new dress I was wearing. It was a cornflower blue with a print of soft yellow flowers at the hemline. The comment was,”Oh, what a pretty dress! And look at those flowers, they just match the straw color of your hair perfectly!” I just nodded with a slight smile and turned away.
