I started giving my boys pocket money when they started school and would give them a bonus before Christmas so they could buy Mum Dad and their brother a gift.

Usually as teens once they have jobs. Some who get allowances do once they get them. Some never do.

Once I was gainfully employed at 16, I began to buy gifts for my parents. Before that time everything was homemade or bought with the help of the parents. We buy Mother's Day gifts for our eleven-year-old granddaughter to give to her mother with the hopes that she will eventually do it herself.
