But that forces you to not be free to spend your money where you want. Yes, I can see  it happening more in the future. Good post.

I am sure you are right. It also ensures you will come back to shop.

I think the trend will continue lots of shops won't touch cash here.

It has happened to me too.

During the coin shortage, I did not get my coins returned, although I did get my cash. They should give a fair warning so that you can choose to use or not use the device that is prepared to finagle you out of your change due to whatever reason.

For a while in the pandemic, a sign was taped on a number of self checkout machines, saying NO CASH BACK, CASH ONLY,  and CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS ONLY. Only a couple card ones gave cash back. The new  interfaces have been  consistent, with the choice of paying methods and cash back, to touch the letters.

Good Morning

FSI, I never thought about this before but I could see this happening in the near future.  When I go inside the bank to cash a check the money is in such bad shape.  It looks like it's been washed a few times, crinkled up, thrown away, and then taken out of the garbage.  I always ask the clerk to give me newer bills if they have any but they never do.  I know when money is in really bad condition the bank can ask for new money but it doesn't seem like that has been happening lately.
