I think part of the trouble was a lot of our Merchant ships werte being sunk and of course it made some things very short. I vividly remember hearing on our small wireless as it was that USA had declared war on Germany. We had nearly had it.

It was so much worse for England than anything I can remember
in the Pacific Northwest of the USA during the war. Your poem is a dramatic flashback to a child's grim experience. So thankful you lived to tell the tale so well.

The elven folk don't reveal their secrets to many on the mortal side of the veil. That's what I've been told.
War is hell, and it must have been more than a horror to be hungry and at war and have to scrounge for basics. So glad you came through it all okay.

Time does have a way of turning brown hair grey. The fairies are blessed with blonde tresses that do not fade with age, so they do not understand human vanity.
