It shows how we depend on things that we take for granted Taps. Always best to keep a few cans of food for an emergency I suppose. Although diving into cold tins of food is rather depressing, to say the least. Perhaps in time, we shall have tins of food that remain hot for years, that will be the day.

Re: FSI
It wasn't horrible. At least I wasn't out in the weather, had extra clothes on and spent most of the time in my recliner looking out the window at people coming and going and watching the flashing lights. I would like to know why it was out, but I probably never will.

Re: sassyass
Mine certainly wasn't gardened-ripened beefsteak like my Dad used to grow, but for a greenhouse ripened tomato-on-the-vine, it certainly wasn't bad.

I'm glad to read that power has been restored. It's a bad time of the year to lose power. Very cold.

That makes for a tough day. So sorry that you went through this. As for slim pickins,' I love a beefsteak tomato sandwich, especially on good country bread with some Hellman's Mayonnaise.

Good Morning
Taps, Oh my! I wonder what happened to cause the lights to go out? When our electricity goes out we lose our phone too because we have everything through the cable company. When our electricity goes out it's really hard. I have candles all over the house just in case we need them and we have flashlights everywhere too. We even keep them in the bathroom drawer. I tell everyone that it's the emergency flashlight. I think Pork and Beans are good cold or hot but on a cold day, it would be nice to be able to warm them up. Stay warm and safe!

I saw the news about your power outages & a tornado in KC
on either the weather channel or the local CBS station here and thought of you. Glad to see you're able to post again - I'm assuming your power's back on. Chilly time of year to have that happen.

Been there. Didn't enjoy it. So often out here in the bush that I bought a generator. (Which I now have trouble getting started because it's a pull cord and the strength is no longer there. I'm looking into getting a push button start). I have no water when there is no electricity so I keep 5 gallon bottles at the ready. And wood upstairs for the box stove to cook. And lotsa candles! Looking forward to hearing the why it happened to you?

It came back on before it got completely dark. I'd love to know what happened. It was just about the same time that tornados hit south of the city. But I never heard anything about any tornados here north of the city where I live.

Oh, that is unsettling to have no power, to say the least! Does make eating a bit difficult, that is, if one wants something warm. And in that weather, one wants something warm I would imagine. I hope things get fixed soon and your power goes back on and that you can stay warm and have telephone service.

You wrote this so well, totally described the misery of no power coming on dark and cold and hungry.
