Oh wow, that is good to hear that they missed the chickens. A scrambled egg breakfast was part of the celebration I am sure.

They lived in a little village that never saw any violence. My Grandparents had one, and Grandad was the Warden. It ended up as a pig stye.

It was the cities they were after. Planes do it now as you know to suss out building potential sometimes in back gardens. Did your parents dig an air-raid shelter/.

Nothing actually happened in our village. The closest was the crash of two Dakotas, killing the Polish paratroops inside. But sadly that was a collision.
