Ciel, it was 53 yesterday and now it's down below twenty. We are supposed to have a nice weekend and I really hope that is true. I found what you posted about Japan to be very interesting. Thanks for sharing it. I hope you have a good night. Stay warm!

Our doorsteps are snow-free. We had an unusually warm day yesterday, and today was sunny but chilly. We watch Netflix, but we have been caught up with work for the past week, so no movies for us for right now.

Re: CCT,
cCZQA, said the cat, climbing over the keyboard...
We don't have much in the way of street lights here, I think it is really just the warm days between the cold ones. They are confused. Which may be the regular state of mind of doves and pigeons.
Cat informs me by her body-language and occasional feline swearing when she spots intruders. It's up to me to deal with them. I think she is quite disgusted that I deal with that orange cat by petting and feeding him. But she is welcome to having her way with the mice.

Re: Pat,
Here on the edge of plains and mountains, we do get milder weather than further uphill, and also not as dramatic as the plains. We do get a lot of rainbows in the summer's stormy season!
I seem always to have had mountains on my horizons, except for the 10 years in NY, NJ, and Cleveland, OH. Western Washington had the great benefit of being between mountains and oceans with rain forests in between!

Re: TAPS,
A failing of education in the US is that we get so little world history, and virtually none about the Far East. I've been fascinated in my later years to correct this lack!
I think you'd enjoy this one, called AGE OF THE SAMURAI. It's several episodes, and provides much of the context of the military story, but doesn't address the interference of Portuguese and Church of Rome in Japanese society and politics, or the effects of opening to trade with Europe and the clash of cultural values and imperatives.
I hope they follow up this first season with another that covers those influences.
SHOGUN is a novel based on actual people and events, but as novels do, the actualities are skewed.

Birds are a bit bird-brained at times. One would have thought instinct would have warned them that it is too early to mess around building nests. Perhaps you have street lights it stimulates the pituitary gland. Although I am sure you know. Keep warm I hope the cat is keeping intruders out,

Sounds like an interesting thing to watch - the Shogun documentaries.
I'm enjoying your weather reports, snowfall totals, etc. and comparing them to what's going on in the flatlands in comparison. I miss the mountains at times - they were all around us when I lived in Washington. I believe Colorado enjoys more rainbows than we get here - cloud patterns are impacted by the peaks and valleys.

I did both--the book first and later the mini-series. Many years later I found it so interesting that Son Mark was stationed at the base in Yokosuka and wrote so much to me about Japan and his escapades there.
