Countless generations of healers clashed eventually with ignorant people or over zealous Churches. it was alright if they could relieve the suffering of someone or were good midwives but they became targets to be blamed if things went wrong. Plague , famine, drought fires. So many of them were eventually burned, a terrible death for anyone.

Of course many poor old women were drowned by testing them for witchcraft. Probably most had dementia and were harmless.

I'm sure a lot of her knowledge came from the old country.  I know healing traditions get passed down from generation to generation.  I know to this day people work with herbs that help people.  I think people should have respected her for what she knew.
